So, welcome, Jane, to the 21st Century. Wow! What a ride it has been. I grew up in the 20th century, at the tail end of the baby boomer generation. I literally watched technology sprout from the airwaves like winter wheat from the soil. When I was a young woman starting out there were no cell phones, personal computers, DVR's, DVD's, internet, digital cameras, and certainly no blogging. I don't think that was even a word. But, what a rush getting involved in all this technology. I am a technology addict. I love facebook and what it has done to bring people I love closer into my busy life. At a glance I know what's going on in the lives of brothers, sisters, kids, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Distance is no issue. My best friend lives in Texas and she is as much a part of my life as my son who lives down the street. My husband lives and works in Africa and I see him and talk to him several times a day. Those of the new generation who have never lived without this marvelous technology can never truly appreciate what a wondrous miracle it is. So, I have decided to create a blog. Not that I think anyone really cares, but someday, some great, great, great grandchild might have the chance to see into the past and know who Grandma and Grandpa Shaw were.....in Grandma's own words. I am 51 years old in about 6 weeks and I have lived half my life already. But, all I can say is, I've got a lot of life left in me and better late than never.

There's too much history for me to go back, so I will begin right here and there might be frequent flashbacks to the past. But, like I say....the past is over and you can't get anywhere by looking behind you so here we go...into the future. Hang on!

What a great blog Jane. I had no idea you were such a great writer. Blogging is an awesome idea that, as you mentioned, will give your posterity a glimpse into your life, and thus help them better understand themselves as well.
